Aluminium Toxicity-a Growth Limiting Factor in Some Natal Sands
نویسنده
چکیده
The inability of crop roots to penetrate subsoil layers in some Natal sandy soils and the associated low yields are the result of toxic quantities of aluminium. The phenomenon which is common in acid sandy soils in Naltal may be easily remedied by deep liming or leaching with gypsum.

Physiological and molecular analysis of the interaction between aluminium toxicity and drought stress in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris)
Aluminium (Al) toxicity and drought are two major factors limiting common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) production in the tropics. Short-term effects of Al toxicity and drought stress on root growth in acid, Al-toxic soil were studied, with special emphasis on Al-drought interaction in the root apex. Root elongation was inhibited by both Al and drought. Combined stresses resulted in a more severe i...
متن کاملINTERFERENCE OF ALUMINIUM WITH CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM IN MALE RATS: A MODEL STUDY OF DIALYSIS PATIENTS
The effects of aluminium and aluminium-citrate on some serum parameters related to carbohydrate metabolism in male Wistar rats were investigated. Daily intraperitoneal administrations of 1 mg/kg body weight of aluminium or aluminiumcitrate (1: 1) for 50 days led to the elevation of serum insulin by 24 or 40 percent respectively, with the concomitant decrease in serum glucose concentrations ...
متن کاملThe effects of nano TiO2 and Nano aluminium on the growth and some physiological parameters of the wheat (Triticum aestivum) .
Nanoparticles are atomic or molecular particles with at least 1–100 nanometer diameters. They have entered vastly into the world of agriculture and biology; this is because of their special effect and their unique features. Their unknown impact on living things and the ecosystems has caused a lot of concern. This research was done in order to study the effects of nano-TiO2 and nano aluminium on...
متن کاملMolecular Basis of Aluminium Toxicity in Plants: A Review
Aluminium toxicity in acid soils having pH below 5.5, affects the production of staple food crops, vegetables and cash crops worldwide. About 50% of the world’s potentially arable lands are acidic. It is trivalent cationic form i.e. Al that limits the plant’s growth. Absorbed Aluminium inhibits root elongation and adversely affects plant growth. Recently researches have been conducted to unders...
متن کاملTHE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ALUMINIUM TOXICITY AND IRON METABOLISM IN RATS
The relationship between aluminium toxicity and iron metabolism was studied. Male rats were exposed to aluminium by daily intraperitoneal injection of 40pmolelkg body weight. After 45 days, aluminium intoxified rats had a significant loweredserum ferritin (55%), iron (42%), TIBC (25%) and hemoglobin(31%). At thesame time the serum ceruloplasmin level was elevated by 60%. This result shows t...
